Amazing Sheep Facts


There are over 1 billion sheep in the world! Which country has the largest number?  You would think it’s New Zealand, but nope. It’s China.

New Zealand has 34 million sheep. That’s roughly 7 sheep for every person living there. This is still nothing compared to 1982, when there was 70 million sheep. That’s 22 sheep for every person!

Their large rectangular pupils allow them to see about 300 degrees around. This lets them to see behind themselves without having to turn their head.


Sheep have a really good memory. They can recognize as many as 50 other sheep faces for up to 2 years. They can also recognize human faces.

Sheep are considered to be extremely intelligent animals who are able to solve problem. They are believed to have a similar IQ level to cattle and almost as smart as pigs.

Long time ago, ancient Egyptians believed that sheep were sacred. Just like humans, they even had them made into mummies when they died.
